From your first phone call to the final wash-down — the family-run patio process explained.
One of the things customers tell us they value most about working with a small family business is knowing exactly what’s going to happen and when. There are no surprises in our process, no salespeople, no opaque pricing, no “today only” pressure. This page lays out exactly how we work from the moment you first get in touch through to the day we hand you the keys to your finished patio.
Free site visit

A member of the family team comes out, measures up, listens to what you actually want, looks at access, levels and drainage, and discusses materials and budget. No cost, no obligation.
Design & written quote
Within 3-5 days you get a written quote with material specification, dimensions, sub-base depth, edging detail and a fixed price. For larger projects we include sketch designs or optional 3D design and modelling.
Materials selection
If you’d like to see materials in real life, we’ll either drop samples round, take you to a recommended showroom, or share photos of similar finishes we’ve installed nearby. Seeing the porcelain or sandstone colour against your actual house in actual Hampshire daylight matters.
Booking & deposit
A small deposit (typically 20-25%) secures the slot and covers initial material ordering. The balance is split into stage payments tied to clear milestones — that protects both sides.
Excavation & preparation
Start date arrives. Our family team turns up with the right equipment, the skip is on site, and your lawn is protected with boards. We excavate to the correct depth, remove spoil tidily, and prepare the formation.
Sub-base, edgings & drainage
Type 1 MOT sub-base laid and compacted in layers, edge restraints concreted in, drainage installed (linear drains, soakaways, or permeable detailing). This is the part that determines whether your patio lasts 5 years or 25 years.
Surface & jointing
The patio goes down on a full mortar bed (porcelain with slurry-prime, sandstone with conventional bedding), jointed with the right compound for the surface, cleaned and where appropriate sealed.
Aftercare & guarantee
We hand over care instructions, the workmanship guarantee in writing, and the family contact details for anything you need afterwards. We typically swing back in 6-12 months to check the jointing and top up where needed.
